MSCC Boba (L2 Lounge) Movie Night ”Lion”: Insights of Adoption
Despite the chilly weather, this November the MSCC team, thanks to our VP Internal Linnea, was able to host an event unlike any we’ve done before: a film screening and panel discussion, with bubble tea sponsored by L2 Lounge.
The film we screened is called “Lion”, which tells the true story of a boy called Saroo, who was tragically separated from his family in rural India and adopted by an Australian couple 25 years ago, and tries to find his old family with the help of Google Maps.
This award-winning movie addresses the sensitive topics of interracial adoption, self-discovery, and displacement and transition between cultures, which are naturally all close to our hearts at McGill Students for China Care. We were also honoured to have Linnea’s mother, an adoptive parent through OneSky, present as a guest speaker to share her experience of adoption with us! It was a thoroughly insightful, emotional experience, and we thank those of you who attended for doing so. We sincerely hope you learned as much as we have.
Below are some photos of our panel discussion.
